History

“History isn’t just about the past. It’s about why we are who we are – and about what is next,” Tony Robinson.

At The Priory Witham Academy children will be encouraged to be passionate about history and develop their sense of curiosity about the past. They will leave with a respect for historical evidence and the ability to use it to support their explanations and judgements. They will have opportunities to undertake high-quality research across a range of historical topics.

Through our curriculum we will develop the essential characteristics of historians:

  • An excellent knowledge and understanding of people, events and contexts from a range of historical periods.
  • The ability to think critically about history and communicate ideas to a range of audiences.
  • The ability to evaluate and challenge their own and others’ views using accurate historical evidence from a range of sources.
  • The ability to think, reflect, debate, discuss and evaluate the past.
