At The Priory Witham, we are committed to promoting personal wellbeing and development through a comprehensive, well-structured programme of Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) education, based on the PSHE Association’s Primary and Secondary guidance, recommended by the Department for Education.

Our PSHE curriculum equips children and young people with the knowledge, understanding, attitudes and practical skills they need to lead healthy, safe, productive and fulfilling lives, both now and in the future. It also strongly supports The Priory Federation of Academies Trust’s vision of developing true citizens of the world.

RSE Curriculum: Statement of Intent

In an ever-changing world, the need for Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) is ever more present as students are increasingly growing up in a complex world and living their lives seamlessly on and offline.  RSE is an integral part of our PSHE programme and provides students with the knowledge to enable lifelong learning to make informed decisions about their wellbeing, health, relationships, and self-efficacy.  As part of the Witham Family, we aim to educate students on the importance of family life, stable and loving relationships and respect for others, love and care. Everyone faces difficult situations at some point in their lives and RSE can support students in developing resilience, to know when/where to ask for support; to become effective contributors to society.

In addition, our RSE curriculum aims to:

• Provide high-quality, evidence-based and age-appropriate teaching that reflects modern society
• Ensure entitlement for all young people
• Be delivered within a context that promotes family values, respect, affection, openness and understanding
• Encourage respectful dialogue between students and staff, valuing all viewpoints
• Create a safe, supportive environment where questions and discussion about relationships and sexual health can take place without stigma or embarrassment.
• Recognise parents and carers as the primary educators in relationships and growing up, and work in partnership with them through consultation and communication
• Acknowledge the valuable contribution of health professionals, social workers, peer educators and other external partners
