Trip to RAF Coningsby

Twelve of our students, having recently graduated from the Jon Egging Trust Blue Skies level 2 programme, were invited to join Professor Brian Cox for the day at RAF Coningsby for a behind the scenes look at one of the Royal Air Forces elite typhoon fighter squadrons.
Our students enjoyed an audience with Professor Cox in the morning, learning about the evolution of the universe and the ‘big bang’. Questions were a plenty as Professor Cox engaged in inspirational discussions with our students. Following lunch with a selection of pilots from 29(R) Squadron, our students embarked upon a flight in the cutting edge Typhoon flight simulator, where they were allowed to test their mettle and fly one of the worlds most advanced aircraft.
The Priory Witham has been fortunate enough, in recent years, to engage with inspirational public figures such as Brian on a number of occasions. When asked whether he had seen a difference in our students since he last met them in June, he replied “they have developed greatly since I last met them” and that “some [students] were more articulate than my first year university students”
The Academy has been at the forefront of the developments of the programmes the Jon Egging Trust offers and look forward to working in partnership with the charity in the years to come.
