Join Our Academy - Primary

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself as the Headteacher of the primary phase of The Priory Witham and explain a little more about the Academy and what we offer.

The Witham Academy is based in the heart of Lincoln providing high quality education for all.  We inspire and excite pupils to be passionate about learning and achieve excellence through our Academy values of Wisdom, Generosity, Courage, Passion and Curiosity.

We understand deciding on the choice of school is one of the most important decisions you will make for your child’s education and is something that you will take much time considering.

Through a broad and balanced curriculum, we develop skills which will prepare your child to thrive as they continue their education, enter the workforce and grow into outstanding human beings. Our pupils are exceptional. They are resilient, courteous, independent and curious learners who are prepared for any challenge.

Pupils are able to begin their journey with us at the Academy from the age of 2 years. Our fantastic early years provision enables pupils in Pre-Nursery, Nursery, Pre-Reception and Reception to thrive through first-hand experiences and a high quality indoor and outdoor learning environment. We create a warm and safe environment and the high quality staff interactions support our pupils to develop their independence, creativity, vocabulary and thinking skills. As the children move into Reception they develop their early reading, writing and mathematics knowledge, which supports a smooth transition into Key Stage 1 (KS1).

In Key Stage 1, Year 1 and Year 2 we build upon the Early Years Foundation Stage and continue to develop the early skills of reading, writing and mathematics. Our aim is to continue to develop in every child an inquisitive mind and passion for learning. Our enthusiastic teachers and engaging lessons prepare pupils for a rapidly changing world, encouraging them to learn by being open-minded and taking risks. At the end of Year 2 our pupils move into Key Stage 2.

Key Stage 2 includes Years 3, 4, 5 and 6. In Key Stage 2 we build on the excellent foundations established in Early Years and Key Stage 1, and our pupils have access to an exciting and interesting curriculum that builds and extends their  historical, geographical, scientific, musical, technological  and artistic knowledge so that by the end of this phase they  are ready to take on the challenges of learning within our secondary phase. Pupils continue to make progress academically, socially, morally and culturally and further develop their independence and self-confidence to improve their life chances and prepare them to become true citizens of the world.

At the Witham Academy, we work hard to ensure you have the opportunity to visit us in person.  We encourage visits to  the Academy during the school day, where you will be able to meet with a member of the senior team and be given a tour of the site.

To arrange your tour please contact Ms M Seller or call 01522 882900.  You can also find more information on our website, by following us on Facebook@PrioryWitham or within the prospectus below.

Starting primary school in the Reception Year

You apply for your child to start school in the Reception Year (Year R) through the coordinated admissions scheme run by the local authority in which you live.

Parents resident in Lincolnshire can apply online through Lincolnshire County Council’s website https://www.lincolnshire.gov.uk/school-admissions. You can also apply by telephone, or ask for a hard copy application form, by telephoning 01522 782030.  Parents resident in other areas must apply through the local authority in which they live.

The deadline for applications to be returned is 15th January in the year of admission in September.  Offers of places are made on 16th April in the same year. If we are not able to offer you a place, you can appeal against that decision.

Moving primary schools – in-year admissions

If your child is already at school and you wish to move primary schools then you must make a new application.  The academy is part of Lincolnshire’s coordinated scheme for in-year admissions. Details of Lincolnshire’s coordinated scheme can be found at https://www.lincolnshire.gov.uk/school-admissions/apply-move-school.

Wherever you live, you can apply to a new school directly or through Lincolnshire County Council’s website: https://www.lincolnshire.gov.uk/school-admissions.  You can also apply by telephone, or ask for a hard copy application form, by telephoning 01522 782030.  The academy does not have its own admission form and if you wish to apply on paper, you can use the common application provided by Lincolnshire admissions team.

You can apply to move schools at any time. We will aim to respond within 10 school days but you will always be notified of the outcome of your application within 15 school days. If we are not able to offer a place, you can appeal against that decision.
